Some time ago, Travel Pendleton produced a list called “Top Ten Reasons to Visit Pendleton the Other 51 Weeks.”
The 52nd week, of course, refers to the much-loved Pendleton Round-up. And while we’re certainly fans of the world-famous rodeo, the list got at an important truth about Pendleton: With so much history, an up-and-coming culinary scene, and a DIY attitude that runs in the city’s DNA, there really is 52 weeks’ worth of fun to be had in eastern Oregon’s largest city.
And that’s where this blog comes in.
What This Blog Is All About – And What to Expect
On one level, we launched this blog to showcase the great food and drink, shops, attractions, entertainment, and lodging available in Pendleton and Umatilla County.
But, more than showing off, we wanted to tell stories about the people, places, and experiences that make Pendleton such a fun and fascinating place to visit.
So, over the coming months, we’ll write about some of the city’s best-loved attractions, events, and more–yes, that includes Round-up–but we’re making a point to focus on stories you probably haven’t heard before.
We want to take you behind the scenes and showcase a side of the region you might not know–like the craft beer brewed exclusively for Hamley Saloon (available nowhere else), the bordello-turned-hotel in downtown Pendleton, the weed-eating goats along the Umatilla River, and the so-called “shortest parade on Earth,” which simply crosses the street before entering the Rainbow Cafe to kick off the bar’s legendary St. Patrick’s Day festivities.
We Want to Hear From You!
We certainly have ideas for upcoming blog posts, but we’d love to hear from you. Specifically:
- What topics would you like us to write about?
- What stories about Pendleton should be told, but aren’t?
- What’s your favorite thing about Pendleton and Umatilla County?
Feel free to leave a comment below, or email the blog author, Matt Wastradowski, at [email protected].
Thanks for reading, and stay tuned–we’re excited to share some of Pendleton’s story with you, and we hope to see you around town soon!
